Proposals could see car parks go cashless
THE majority of council-owned car parks in Tamworth will soon be cashless.
THE majority of council-owned car parks in Tamworth will soon be cashless.
Tamworth Borough Council said the move would reduce the risk of vandalism and theft from machines, improve reliability and make better use of public money.
The authority said it expects the move to save between £15,000 and £20,000 a year
At present, only around a third of payments made for parking in Tamworth are paid for with cash.
Before the changes are introduced, there will be a formal public consultation as part of the Traffic Regulation Order process – but the council said the Spinning School Lane would retain a cash payment option
Cllr Nova Arkney, portfolio holder for infrastructure and local economy at Tamworth Borough Council, said: "We know parking is important to residents, visitors and local businesses.
"These changes are about keeping car parks safe, reliable and affordable, while making sure there is still a cash option available at Spinning School Lane for those who need it.
"We’ll continue to listen and review how this works in practice.”
The council said that any new arrangements would be reviewed after 18 months.
